Saint-Gilles-les-Bains is Réunion's main seaside resort, famous for its white sand beaches and turquoise waters sheltered by the lagoon. It's the perfect place to unwind after the exertions of the cirques and the volcano — a well-deserved pause on your van tour of the island.

The marina, the seafood restaurants, the surf shops and the lively waterfront make it the most vibrant destination on the West Coast. Take the opportunity to restock the van, do some laundry and recharge your batteries before the next leg of the adventure.

📍 Location

Saint-Gilles-les-Bains lies around 60 km south-west of Saint-Denis, on the leeward coast — the sunniest and driest side of the island.

Humpback whales: a unique spectacle

Boat trips run regularly from Saint-Gilles harbour to watch the whales in a respectful, non-intrusive way. An unforgettable experience, especially moving when a mother and calf swim up close to the boat.
